The Political Economy of the EMU

Timeframe: Completed
Project Manager: Rickard Eriksson

The project aims to conduct an empirical study of the referendum on the Euro in Sweden in 2003. The study will build on hypotheses that derive from theories on the political economy of exchange rate regimes.

The data used in the study will allow for a detailed econometric analysis of the relation between the voters' choice of exchange rate regimes, on the one hand, and underlying causes such as profession, income level, education, union membership, gender, etc., on the other.

The results of the study will be compared with the results in this area in the field of political science, in order to establish how economic theory can contribute to our understanding of voter behaviour in relation to different exchange rate regimes.
