Stuck in the Exit: the Dynamics of British-EU Relations (2012:11epa)
The United Kingdom is one of the European Union’s more reluctant members. A domestic debate has indeed started on EU competences, and a possible referendum on membership.
Some other member states have expressed concern over this development and await the results from the on-going review of the country´s relations with the EU, recently initiated by the British government.
In this analysis, Roderick Parkes explains the UK’s strained relationship with the EU. He uses the EU´s “group dynamics” in order to explain the country´s current position and how it might evolve in the future.
The analysis is published in the context of SIEPS´ research project The political system of the European Union.
