Kan Lissabonfördraget minska EU:s sociala underskott? (2010:4epa)
The debate about a social Europe has lasted for a long time but led to modest results. The Lisbon Treaty states, for the first time, that the EU is a social market economy.
In this analysis there is a discussion of what this means and if the Lisbon Treaty in general can help to reduce the EU's social deficit. The author does not believe that the treaty would automatically mean that the EU becomes more social, but it provides new arguments supporting those who want to drive integration in the social direction.
The analysis is part of the research project Social Europe.
