Organiserade intressen i Europeiska unionen (2011:7)
Can organised interests be of help in bringing the EU closer to its citizens? In this SIEPS report the issue is examined by studying the process that produced the new regulatory system for chemicals (REACH). The conclusion is that participation of interest organisations contributed to better and more well-balanced decisions.
This indicates that participation of various groups in decision-making might be a way of promoting the democratic legitimacy of the EU.
The study is a contribution to the debate on the role of interest groups within the political system and forms a part of the SIEPS project Representation, delegation and democracy.
