The Cyprus EU Presidency: “Riders on the Storm” (2012:3op)
Cyprus assumed the EU presidency in the midst of the economic crisis. The presidency has been a challenging task, not the least since Cyprus itself has been severely hit by the crisis and is subject to austerity measures.
Against this background, the pronounced ambition of the Cypriot presidency has been a "more efficient and sustainable" Europe. The agenda has been dominated by efforts to reach an agreement on the Multiannual Financial Framework for 2014-2020.
In this publication, the authors outline the turbulent history of modern Cyprus and its relations with the EU. They furthermore provide an interim description and analysis of what the presidency has achieved.
The publication is part of SIEPS research project The EU Presidencies.
