Undervärderade effekter av ett längre arbetsliv i Europa (2013:5epa)
Several EU Member States have developed measures to postpone retirement and prolong working life. In this analysis, the authors highlight the main evolutions in the area, and the current situation of the 50-74 year olds on the labour market in eight European countries.
Systems adopted in these countries seem to have achieved some similar effects, such as later exit among persons with higher education. However, considerable differences can be observed, for instance regarding the employment rate of women.
Moreover, the analysis summarises the conditions for the elderly workforce and points out that several socioeconomic effects of a longer working life deserve further attention.
The analysis is part of SIEPS´ research project The Future Single Market.
