EU-skeptikernas frammarsch – Valet till Europaparlamentet 2014 (2014:2op)
The 2014 European Parliament elections took place after many years of severe austerity policies, comprehensive bailout programmes and increasing political resistance to European integration. Due to the strengthened role of the European Parliament by the Lisbon Treaty, the expectations on public interest, media coverage and electoral participation grew.
Also, the EP party groups challenged the EU heads of governments by launching their own candidates for president of the European Commission.
In this publication, Magnus Blomgren examines the collected electoral results’ changes in the European Parliament’s political configuration and how this may affect the parliamentary work during the current term. Linda Berg analyses the outcome of the Swedish EP election, with a special emphasis on the Swedish “Super Election Year” and “second tier-election” as well as voting behavior among electoral groups.
The publication is in Swedish and is a part of SIEPS´ project The political system of the European Union.
