Webinar 10 June 2024: The Election Results and What They Mean for the EU

How did Europe vote? The day after the polls closed, SIEPS hosted a webinar summarising the campaign, the results, and looking ahead to how the newly elected Parliament will shape the future of the EU. A recording is now available.

The European Parliament elections from 6 to 9 June 2024 look set to create a new political landscape at the EU level. Populist and Eurosceptic parties with diverse policy agendas are on the rise in many member states and are likely to make gains.

The results of the European Parliament elections poses some important questions which are addressed by experts in this SIEPS webinar, held the day after polls close:  What were the main themes of the elections? What kind of Parliament has emerged? What impact do the elections have on the EU’s political system and policies? And to what extent does the outcome of the elections determine the leadership of the next European Commission and its policies?

Over the next five years, the EU institutions will have to take crucial decisions on the Union’s political integration, enlargement and reform. Will they take bold steps or will the EU be left muddling through?
